Dokdo have been Korean territory since the early 6th century which were annexed by Isabu although the natives had refused to submit using the rough topography as a shield. The topography of Dokdo is not just a mass of a volcanic rocks that formed by natural and man-made factors through centuries, in its curves and sharp lines there are stories of Isabu, of victory of hope and even for defeats, it is not just a group of small islets in the middle of the sea it is a representation of the whole Korean nation telling its own story of what have been and what may happen in the years to come.
The proposed design is based on recognizing this stories of Dokdo and Isabu through a pattern that is generated by the rich topography of the islets creating a place for people to experience the stories in a symbolic and physical ways. The site of the project is almost a flat land with the exception of Mt. Yukhyang the patterns transforms the flatness into a series of bends this bends creates a park in its highs and lows visitors are experiencing a memorial spaces that integrates history and culture
The project consists of three culture and assembly facilities, residential facilities, and a park, the facilities is proposed to be in a lower level maximizing the visitors experience of the park, and it is translated into a series of voids connected through the fluidity of the park, visitors can reach this voids as the park flows into them like a sea connecting a group of islets together. The waves of the park is reflected in the interior of the buildings allowing the visitors to experience the stories of Dokdo and Isabu inside and outside, a thin white lines inspired by the topography of the islets guides people through the park and through the different facilities
